On the morning of September 5, 2025, the MV Gemini encountered a significant incident while maneuvering at the pier in Piraeus, Athens, Greece. During its controlled approach for docking, the vessel unexpectedly collided with the pier, resulting in damage to its hull above the waterline. This breach was reported by the cruise line and subsequently confirmed through technical assessments.
Port authorities, along with the ship’s technical team, are set to conduct a comprehensive inspection to evaluate the extent of the damage. The findings from this inspection will dictate the necessary repairs required before the MV Gemini can continue its scheduled voyages.
This incident is part of a broader pattern of issues faced by the 1992-built MV Gemini. Earlier in March 2025, the vessel was involved in a serious incident when it experienced an engine-room fire shortly after departing from Piraeus. The fire generated visible smoke from the upper decks, leading to a precautionary muster of the onboard passengers and crew.
