HAL’s MS Zuiderdam Provides Assistance to Sailing Yacht Atlaya

While traveling north from Boston towards Quebec City on a 7-day cruise, the ms Zuiderdam, operated by Holland America Line, received an urgent distress call from the US Coast Guard’s Sector Boston. The sailing yacht Atlaya was reported to be taking on water approximately 10 miles off the coast.

The ms Zuiderdam quickly changed its course and reached the troubled vessel within 35 minutes. The two passengers on board the Atlaya were safely evacuated and brought aboard the Zuiderdam, later being transferred to a Coast Guard cutter without any injuries reported.

After successfully rendering assistance, the ms Zuiderdam continued on its scheduled route, arriving on time at Portland, Maine.
