G Adventures Unveils Refurbished Ocean Adventurer: A New Era for Expedition Travel

G Adventures has introduced its newly refurbished expedition ship, the Ocean Adventurer, which is set to operate under the name MS Expedition for the upcoming Antarctica season. This revamped vessel will replace the previous MS Expedition model, enhancing both performance and sustainability in G Adventures’ polar travel offerings.

Originally built in 1975, the ship has undergone several operational changes and now meets G Adventures’ high standards for small-ship expeditions. Key upgrades include new engines, renovations of living and public areas, and improved stabilizers. With an ice class 1A certification, it is equipped to navigate polar waters.

The Ocean Adventurer can accommodate about 128 guests within 70 cabins and includes 11 Zodiac boats for daily excursions. Each voyage features a team of expedition experts who facilitate activities such as wildlife observation and educational lectures.

G Adventures’ itineraries will begin in Montevideo, featuring visits to notable destinations like the Falkland Islands and South Georgia, and will proceed to the South Shetland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula, concluding in Ushuaia, Argentina.

The company anticipates that transitioning to the Ocean Adventurer will lower the carbon footprint per guest per day by up to 30%, attributed to the ship’s more efficient engine and modernized systems.
