Tragic Incident: Cruise Ship Passenger Dies After Fall During Alaskan Hike
A tragic incident occurred in Alaska when a 32-year-old cruise passenger from Texas, Britian Pool, was found dead after an accident while hiking on Mount Roberts. The Alaska Department of Public Safety reported that Pool fell approximately 8:10 p.m. on Tuesday. Another hiker, also a cruise passenger, sustained minor injuries and was rescued by Juneau Mountain Rescue.
Authorities confirmed that Pool’s body was recovered further down the mountain using drones, and he was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries from the fall. His remains were taken to the state’s Medical Examiner’s Office for identification.
Both men were enjoying their visit to Juneau as part of a cruise trip when the accident happened. Additional reports indicate a similar incident occurred two months earlier, where a 62-year-old woman, also a cruise passenger, was found dead after embarking on a hike. Her body was discovered about 1,700 feet beneath her intended route after she had texted her family about her hiking plans.
Experts from the hiking community emphasized the importance of safety when navigating Alaska’s backcountry. Carl Donahue, a hiking guide, noted that accidents often result from a combination of small factors rather than a single event. He suggested that hikers should inform someone about their plans and be well-prepared for potential emergencies.
Kate Evans, another adventure guide, echoed this sentiment, advising that hikers ensure they possess the necessary skills and equipment for the conditions they encounter.
