Royal Caribbean Group Expands Future Fleet: Secures Meyer Turku Shipyard Capacity Through 2036
Royal Caribbean Group (RCG) has secured a long-term agreement with Meyer Turku, a shipyard in Finland, ensuring the ability to commission new vessels at the yard until 2036. This deal includes the order for Icon 5, with a delivery date set for 2028, contingent upon securing the necessary financing. Additionally, RCG has an option for a future vessel, Icon 7, while an earlier announced option for Icon 6 remains in the pipeline.
Meyer Turku has established a solid partnership with RCG, having previously delivered two ICON-class ships: Icon of the Seas, which began service in January 2024, and Star of the Seas, launching in August 2025. The yard is also preparing for the third ship, Legend of the Seas, expected to set sail in Summer 2026, followed by Icon 4 due in 2027.
This agreement is expected to be lucrative for Meyer Turku, which has built 25 ships for RCG since the 1990s. With a steady construction schedule for ICON-class vessels, the shipyard anticipates generating over a billion euros annually, bolstering the Finnish economy.
RCG has indicated that further orders beyond Icon 5 will depend on the execution of options and the completion of formal construction contracts, subject to standard conditions like financing. The deal puts RCG in a favorable position as it looks to develop a "new, game-changing class of ship beyond Icon."
The CEO of Meyer Turku has highlighted the pride this agreement brings to both the workforce and Finnish maritime craftsmanship.
