Successful Large-Scale Emergency Exercise on TUI’s Mein Schiff 7 in Warnemünde
An extensive emergency preparedness drill was conducted on the TUI Cruises vessel Mein Schiff 7 while docked at Warnemünde, Germany. This exercise, orchestrated by the Havariekommando in collaboration with TUI, simulated a severe onboard fire scenario that resulted in multiple injuries among passengers.
Fire brigades from Rostock, Lübeck, and Hamburg took part, along with maritime rescue units. Helicopters were deployed to swiftly transport response teams to the ship, while various support vessels, including the tug Fairplay 35 and the firefighting ship Albert Wegener, facilitated operations from the water.
Volunteers played the role of injured passengers, allowing the crews to perform search and rescue, evacuation, and medical triage procedures in practical conditions. Havariekommando’s director, Dr. Robby Renner, emphasized the importance of realistic drills in ensuring operational preparedness. TUI highlighted that such collaborative exercises are crucial for adequately equipping both on-board teams and external emergency services to handle potential incidents, whether at sea or in port.
