Azamara Sets Sail on Celestial Voyages in Collaboration with Lowell Observatory
Azamara Cruises has announced a three-year partnership with Lowell Observatory aimed at enhancing its solar eclipse cruises in 2026. This collaboration will integrate scientific programs and astronomical experiences into the cruise offerings, aligning with Azamara’s immersive travel philosophy and Lowell Observatory’s renowned expertise in eclipse research.
During the eclipse voyages, passengers will enjoy a range of activities including lectures from astronomers, guided stargazing, interactive demonstrations, and real-time commentary on the eclipse, complete with specialized viewing glasses. This initiative is designed to provide a deeper understanding of the celestial event beyond merely visual appeal.
On August 12, 2026, the ships will be strategically located to provide the best observational conditions for the solar eclipse. The itinerary includes an 11-night journey from Athens aboard the Azamara Onward, a 12-night cruise centered on Ireland with the Azamara Quest departing from Dublin, and an 18-night expedition through the Arctic on the Azamara Journey, which sets sail from Reykjavík.
This endeavor continues Lowell Observatory’s more than 130-year history of eclipse studies, offering cruise guests a unique perspective as they witness the eclipse from unobstructed ocean locations, maximizing the experience of being in the moon’s shadow.
