Cruise Lines Adjust Caribbean Itineraries Amidst Tropical Storm Humberto

Major cruise lines have altered several Caribbean itineraries in response to the strengthening of Tropical Storm Humberto, which has been upgraded to a hurricane as it moves northeast of the northern Leeward Islands. The National Hurricane Center warned on September 26th that Humberto might reach major hurricane status within 24 to 48 hours. Additionally, a tropical wave near Hispaniola, Turks and Caicos, and eastern Cuba is expected to progress towards the Bahamas, potentially developing into a tropical depression. Heavy rains and strong winds have already impacted the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and the Turks and Caicos Islands, with effects likely extending into the Bahamas and eastern Cuba in the coming days.

Carnival Cruise Line has confirmed schedule adjustments. The Carnival Venezia, which departed New York on September 22nd, has canceled a planned call at Grand Turk on September 28th and will extend its stay at San Juan, Puerto Rico, by two hours on September 27th. Carnival Sunrise, leaving Miami on September 25th, has moved its call at Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas one day earlier. Carnival stated that these changes were made with passenger safety as a priority, in collaboration with the National Hurricane Center, U.S. Coast Guard, and port authorities.

Royal Caribbean International has also revised routes. The Star of the Seas will now follow a Western Caribbean itinerary, visiting Costa Maya and Cozumel in Mexico and Roatan, Honduras, instead of its originally planned Eastern Caribbean route starting September 28th. The Liberty of the Seas has omitted a Bermuda call, substituting it for a stop at St. John, New Brunswick, during its September 27th voyage. Freedom of the Seas has altered its September 25th itinerary to call at Cozumel instead of Grand Turk. These changes were communicated directly to passengers based on meteorological assessments.

Disney Cruise Line made alterations to the sailing of Disney Wish, canceling a September 27th visit to Nassau and moving its call at Castaway Cay forward by one day, with the vessel spending September 28th at sea.
