TUI’s Mein Schiff 7 Hosts Large-Scale Emergency Exercise in Warnemünde
An extensive emergency preparedness drill was conducted aboard TUI Cruises’ Mein Schiff 7 while docked in Warnemünde, Germany. This drill, coordinated by the Havariekommando in collaboration with TUI, simulated a severe onboard fire scenario that resulted in multiple injuries among passengers.
The exercise saw participation from fire brigades from Rostock, Lübeck, and Hamburg, along with maritime rescue units. Helicopters were utilized to deliver response teams directly to the ship, supported by various watercraft, including tugboats and firefighting ships.
Volunteers acted as injured passengers, allowing the crew to practice search, rescue, evacuation, and medical triage procedures in a realistic setting. Dr. Robby Renner, director of Havariekommando, emphasized the importance of conducting lifelike drills to ensure operational readiness. TUI acknowledged that these joint exercises are vital for preparing both ship crews and external emergency services for potential incidents at sea or in port.
