Cruise Lines Adjust Caribbean Itineraries Due to Tropical Storm Humberto

Major cruise lines have revised their Caribbean itineraries due to the intensifying Tropical Storm Humberto, which has recently been upgraded to hurricane status as it moves northeast of the northern Leeward Islands. On September 26th, the National Hurricane Center reported that Humberto is expected to escalate to major hurricane strength within a day or two. Additionally, a tropical wave near Hispaniola and other regions is projected to develop further, bringing heavy rain and strong winds to areas such as the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and the Turks and Caicos Islands, with potential impacts extending to the Bahamas and eastern Cuba.

To ensure safety, several cruise lines have made adjustments. Carnival Cruise Line announced changes to the schedule of the Carnival Venezia, which will now skip a scheduled stop at Grand Turk on September 28th and extend its visit to San Juan, Puerto Rico, by an additional two hours on September 27th. Carnival Sunrise, sailing from Miami, will move its call at Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas one day earlier. These changes follow continuous monitoring of storm developments alongside updates from the National Hurricane Center, the U.S. Coast Guard, and port authorities.

Royal Caribbean International also altered multiple itineraries. The Star of the Seas will divert from its original Eastern Caribbean route to now include stops in Costa Maya and Cozumel in Mexico, as well as Roatan, Honduras, starting September 28th. Liberty of the Seas replaced a planned visit to Bermuda with a stop at St. John, New Brunswick, on September 27th. Similarly, Freedom of the Seas changed its itinerary on September 25th to visit Cozumel instead of Grand Turk, with the cruise line citing meteorological guidance for these modifications.

Disney Cruise Line adjusted the Disney Wish’s schedule, canceling a stop at Nassau on September 27th and moving its visit to Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay, earlier by a day. The ship will spend September 28th at sea.
