Fincantieri Unveils Star Princess: The Second Sphere-Class Vessel for Princess Cruises
Fincantieri has successfully completed and delivered the Star Princess, marking the launch of the second vessel in Princess Cruises’ Sphere-Class series. This ship is set to commence its service with an inaugural Mediterranean voyage starting from Barcelona on October 4th.
Following in the footsteps of its sister ship, the Sun Princess, the Star Princess is powered by liquefied natural gas, contributing to Princess Cruises’ efforts to decrease emissions across its fleet. The ship’s propulsion system incorporates twin Azipod units that enable 360-degree maneuverability, bolstered by four controllable-pitch bow thrusters for enhanced maneuverability during port operations.
The Star Princess boasts an impressive design, featuring 20 decks and a weight of 177,800 gross tons, with accommodations for 4,300 guests across 2,157 staterooms. Highlights of the onboard experience include 30 dining and bar venues, an enriched entertainment lineup, and a variety of accommodation options ranging from Sanctuary Collection suites to balcony staterooms, with over 1,500 rooms offering private balconies.
Key areas on the ship include The Dome, a multifunctional relaxation and performance space; The Arena, the main theater; The Piazza, showcasing curved architecture and ocean views; and Spellbound by Magic Castle, a speakeasy-style venue in collaboration with Hollywood’s Magic Castle.
Post-delivery, the Star Princess will host Mediterranean itineraries before transitioning to serve routes in the Caribbean, the Panama Canal, and Alaska.
