UAE Introduces Multiple-Entry Permits for Cruise Passengers and Crew

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has recently launched a new multiple-entry visa specifically for cruise ship crew and passengers, a significant first for the country’s maritime sector. This initiative, coming from the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP), aims to simplify shore leave and vessel transitions for cruise lines.

Under the new regulations, foreign visitors arriving by cruise can obtain a multiple-entry visa for a limited time if they submit their travel itinerary in advance and are sponsored by a licensed tourism or shipping provider. This development is particularly beneficial as most winter cruises in the Persian Gulf are based in major cities like Dubai and Abu Dhabi, collectively accommodating nearly one million passengers each season.

Major General Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, head of the ICP, noted that this modernization aligns with the UAE’s goals for economic diversification and enhancing global mobility. He emphasized that the new visa scheme not only facilitates crew rotations but also reinforces the UAE’s growing significance in the global cruise industry, particularly in contrast to established hubs in the Mediterranean and Caribbean.

In addition to this newly introduced visa, the ICP has also announced three other categories for visit visas that pertain to sectors like artificial intelligence and entertainment.
