Hurricane Forces Cruise Lines to Rethink West Coast Itineraries
Hurricane Priscilla is currently affecting cruise itineraries along the West Coast, particularly for Carnival and Royal Caribbean. As the storm approached a Category 3 status on Tuesday, numerous ships had to alter their planned routes.
One of the primary vessels impacted is the Carnival Panorama, which announced itinerary changes to its passengers prior to their embarkation on October 5, 2025. The cruise line’s Fleet Operations Center, led by Captain Salvatore Mangraviti, has been closely tracking Tropical Storm Priscilla, which is expected to move toward Cabo San Lucas. Due to this threat, Carnival indicated that the port may close.
As a result, Carnival adjusted the original six-night cruise to the Mexican Riviera, changing it to two stops in Ensenada and adding a visit to Catalina Island instead of the scheduled Cabo San Lucas and Ensenada. The company acknowledged the disappointment regarding the missed Cabo experiences but emphasized that safety is their top priority. They also stated that prepaid excursions to Cabo would be automatically refunded to the guests’ onboard accounts.
Other vessels affected include the Royal Caribbean ship Radiance of the Seas, which was on a trans-Canal cruise that left San Diego on October 4, 2025. Reports from passengers indicated that the ship had to eliminate stops in Cabo San Lucas and Mazatlán due to adverse weather conditions. Additionally, other Royal Caribbean ships, such as the Quantum of the Seas and Navigator of the Seas, have also modified their itineraries to steer clear of the storm.
