Introducing Scenic Ikon: Scenic’s Exciting Newbuild for 2028
Scenic Group is set to introduce its latest vessel, the Scenic Ikon, aimed at elevating the standard of ultra-luxury expedition cruising. Scheduled to commence operations in April 2028, this impressive ship will be 26,500 gross tons, measuring 672 feet (205 meters) in length with a 78-foot (24-meter) beam, accommodating up to 270 guests in 135 all-veranda suites ranging from 365 to 2,691 square feet.
Designed for versatility, the Scenic Ikon is capable of navigating both polar regions and warmer destinations. It boasts a strengthened hull rated at Polar Code 6 and Ice Class 1A Super, making it equipped for various environments. To enhance the exploration experience, the vessel will feature two Airbus helicopters, a custom-designed Triton AVA submersible, Zodiacs, and luxurious superyacht Fassmer tenders.
Glen Moroney, the Founder and Chairman of Scenic Group, emphasized that the Scenic Ikon has been developed over three years through the efforts of their in-house shipbuilding division at MKM Yachts. The ship, built and operated by Scenic’s dedicated crew, has been designed to deliver unparalleled experiences across a wide range of destinations, including the Mediterranean, Antarctica, and more.
Construction is currently progressing, with the steel-cutting ceremony having taken place in February and the keel laying in May 2025. The ship is on track for delivery at the end of 2027, ahead of its final testing and commercial launch.
The inaugural voyage from Venice has already sold out, and future departures are anticipated to sell strongly as well. Over its maiden season, which runs until March 2029, the Scenic Ikon will visit 110 ports across 21 countries, exploring 26 new destinations. Its unique helicopter program aims to redefine the boundaries of luxury exploration, alongside features such as the custom-built submersible, Scenic Neptune III – a Triton AVA-9.
