South Australia Gears Up for 56 Ship Visits and 80,000 Passengers in 2025-2026: A Boon for Tourism!
The 2025–2026 cruise season in South Australia was officially launched with the arrival of the Crown Princess at Outer Harbour (Adelaide). This season is set to feature 56 cruise ships, catering to over 80,000 passengers.
The Crown Princess, operated by Princess Cruises, made its way from Western Australia with a guest count surpassing 3,000 as part of a 28-day journey around the Australian coast, beginning in Sydney. According to company reports, this cruise line anticipates contributing approximately A$15 million to the South Australian economy through expenditures by crew and passengers, along with money spent on provisioning and tourism.
Throughout the season, Princess Cruises will facilitate ten scheduled visits to South Australia via four of its vessels: Crown Princess, Coral Princess, Grand Princess, and Discovery Princess. Notably, the Discovery Princess is the newest and largest of the lineup, marking its inaugural visit to Port Lincoln.
Additionally, South Australia will welcome several luxury vessels for the first time, including Silversea Cruises’ Silver Moon and Silver Dawn, which will visit locations such as Adelaide, Kangaroo Island, and Port Lincoln, along with multiple overnight stays in Adelaide.
The season will also feature eight maiden port calls to both Adelaide and Kangaroo Island, along with two to Port Lincoln, continuing through May 2026.
In terms of regional expansion, the coastal town of Robe, situated in the Limestone Coast, will receive cruise ship calls for the first time since 2015, commencing with vessels like Silver Nova and Seabourn Sojourn.
The largest ship set to dock in South Australia this season is the Discovery Princess, which has a capacity of over 3,600 passengers and roughly 1,600 crew members. Following closely is Celebrity Edge, catering to around 3,500 guests and 1,377 crew.
To enhance the cruise experience, the state government, alongside the South Australian Tourism Commission and various local cruise line operators, has introduced more than 15 new shore-tour experiences in diverse regions including the Limestone Coast, Fleurieu Peninsula, Adelaide Hills, Barossa Valley, and central Adelaide.
