French Riviera Implements New Regulations for Cruise Ships
New regulations have been established by the Prefect of Alpes-Maritimes and the Maritime Prefect of the Mediterranean to control cruise-ship visits at the ports of Nice, Cannes, and Villefranche in the French Riviera.
According to the new prefectural decree, each port will average a limit of 2,000 passengers disembarked per call, with a maximum cap set at 3,000 passengers. Furthermore, ships that can hold more than 1,300 passengers are allowed only one visit per day at each port, and during the peak months of July and August, these vessels may visit a maximum of 15 times across the period.
Additionally, preference will be given to cruise lines that commit to the "Sustainable Cruise in the Mediterranean" charter. In situations of pollution peaks, further restrictions on cruise calls may be enforced. The regulations are scheduled to take effect following a 21-day electronic public consultation.
