Norwegian Cruise Ship Heroically Rescues 63 Stranded Individuals in the Ionian Sea
A Norwegian Cruise Line ship, the Norwegian Epic, conducted a remarkable rescue in the Ionian Sea, saving 63 individuals on October 22. The rescue was coordinated with Greek authorities, following a search and rescue operation in the region.
According to a statement from the cruise line, the rescued individuals were given medical evaluations and provided with food and comfort items by the ship’s crew. After ensuring the safety and well-being of those on board, the Norwegian Epic proceeded to Kalamata, Greece, where the individuals were handed over to local authorities.
The cruise began on October 21 from Civitavecchia, Italy, and includes stops in Greece, Malta, Italy, and France. Despite the unforeseen interruption, the vessel has resumed its planned itinerary. The Norwegian Cruise Line expressed gratitude to their passengers for their understanding during this unexpected event.
This incident follows another recent maritime rescue involving a Holland America Line ship, which helped two people from a distressed sailing vessel in August during a cruise from Boston to Quebec City, Canada.
