Celestyal Ships Make Historic Suez Canal Transit Without Passengers for Arabian Gulf Deployment
Celestyal Cruises has announced that its vessels, Celestyal Journey and Celestyal Discovery, will transit the Suez Canal without passengers as they prepare for the upcoming winter operations in the Arabian Gulf for the 2025–2026 season. This decision comes as a precautionary measure amidst ongoing safety concerns in the Red Sea region.
Both ships will depart from Piraeus-Athens, embarking on voyages that will take them to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, while carrying guests until the Saudi port. Following this, they will transit through the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandeb Strait without passengers.
Celestyal Journey is scheduled to set sail on November 22nd, 2025, followed by Celestyal Discovery on November 28th. Each ship will complete a 7-night itinerary featuring stops at Kusadasi, Sharm El Sheikh, and Aqaba, culminating in a full transit of the Suez Canal before disembarking guests in Jeddah. Once in Saudi Arabia, the ships will then head towards the UAE unoccupied.
Despite the adjustments due to regional instability, Celestyal remains committed to its Arabian Gulf program. Celestyal Journey will commence its first Gulf voyage on December 6th, 2025, which will include attendance at the Abu Dhabi Formula 1 Grand Prix. Celestyal Discovery will follow on December 12th, offering various itineraries from Abu Dhabi that include stops at Doha, Khasab, Dubai, and Sir Bani Yas Island.
The company asserts that the decision to reposition both ships without passengers is intended to maintain operational safety and facilitate a smooth start to its winter season in the Arabian Gulf.
