Marina Bay Cruise Terminal in Singapore Unveils $40 Million Upgrade!

Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore (MBCCS), managed by SATS-Creuers Cruise Services, has unveiled a significant upgrade costing $40 million aimed at enhancing both operational efficiency and the passenger experience amid the rise in cruise travel in Asia.

The redevelopment focuses on optimizing passenger flow to support the simultaneous operation of two mega-ships at its existing berths. A newly constructed check-in hall on Level 1 features 70 counters and over 500 seats dedicated to operations at Pier 2, while the upgraded facility on Level 2 caters to Pier 1, each equipped with a VIP lounge for a more comfortable experience for premium travelers.

Additionally, the Ground Transport Area (GTA) has been expanded to facilitate better access and traffic flow. Improvements include wider roadways, increased coach bays, and points for early baggage drop-off, streamlining luggage transfer directly to the ships. A dedicated shuttle service now connects Marina South Pier MRT station to the terminal, especially during cruise days, to make passenger transitions smoother.

To accommodate self-driving guests, MBCCS has introduced an Advanced Carpark Reservation System, allowing for parking bookings up to 60 days in advance at discounted rates. Passengers with reduced mobility can use a buggy service for easy transit between the GTA and the main terminal.

The upgraded terminal has also established new collaborations with local service providers, enabling travelers to manage baggage transfers to hotels and the airport, as well as shuttle connections to local attractions like Gardens by the Bay and Chinatown. The Cruise-Fly Service has been reintroduced, allowing international guests disembarking in Singapore to check in their luggage for same-day flights, letting them explore the city before their departure.

Operationally, MBCCS is implementing a Vehicle Slot Management System that utilizes real-time tracking and automated scheduling for efficient logistics and timely ship turnarounds, particularly during dual ship operations.

Moreover, MBCCS is introducing PortDeck, a modular bench-table system that can be adjusted according to passenger volume, marking a pioneering move among maritime passenger terminals to enhance efficiency and passenger comfort during peak times.
