Royal Caribbean’s New Ship to Honor Cruise Ducks with a Whimsical Tribute
Royal Caribbean is set to unveil a whimsical twist on the beloved cruise duck tradition with its newest ship, Legend of the Seas, which is part of the Icon Class fleet. This ship will feature a dedicated area called Surfside, specifically designed for families, where playful rubber ducks will take center stage.
Among the highlights is the introduction of a rubber duck-themed carousel. The cruise line is engaging its fans by inviting them to help name one of the duck characters that will be a part of this merry attraction. The character, a pink cowgirl duck, is characterized as vivacious, adventurous, and fond of both glow-in-the-dark laser tag and build-your-own tacos from El Loco Fresh.
Fans have already begun suggesting names on social media, with creative ideas such as Calamity Quack and Annie Duckley, inspired by prominent figures of the Wild West and iconic female country music stars. One user even proposed the name “Dolly” for the duck, suggesting that Dolly Parton should serve as the ship’s godmother.
Set to launch in July 2026, Legend of the Seas will first embark on a series of western Mediterranean cruises, followed by itineraries in the Caribbean starting in November 2026 from Fort Lauderdale. Besides the unique duck-themed attractions, the ship will also feature a redesigned Playscape for young children and will showcase new entertainment options, including a Broadway adaptation of Roald Dahl’s “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.”
In terms of dining experiences, passengers can look forward to Royal Railway – Legend Station, which will offer an immersive dining journey inspired by the ancient Silk Routes, as well as the Hollywoodland Supper Club, reminiscent of the glitz and glamour of classic cinema. Additional amenities will include seven pools and the largest waterpark at sea, making this cruise experience truly special.
