Nicko Cruises Modifies Vasco da Gama’s World Itinerary Due to Red Sea Security Issues

Nicko Cruises has announced changes to the itinerary of its 2025-2026 world cruise aboard the Vasco da Gama, amid escalating security concerns in the Red Sea region. This cruise, which began its journey from Hamburg on November 7, 2025, will maintain its planned course except for the section between Dubai and Piraeus-Athens, scheduled for March 20, 2026.

Instead of navigating through the Red Sea and adjacent waters of Yemen, passengers will disembark at Salalah, Oman, where they will take part in a four-day land program. During this period, the Vasco da Gama will relocate to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, without any guests onboard.

The overland experience aims to offer cultural and natural excursions in both Oman and Saudi Arabia. Guests will enjoy accommodations in a four-star hotel in Jeddah before re-boarding the ship. Nicko Cruises emphasized that ensuring passenger safety is its top priority. The decision to modify the itinerary was made proactively, with the hope that conditions in the Red Sea would improve before the scheduled passage.

Following the stop in Jeddah, the Vasco da Gama will continue its journey through the Suez Canal into the Mediterranean and onward to Western Europe.

This itinerary change reflects a broader trend within the cruise industry, as other companies like Celestyal Cruises have also adjusted their routes to address maritime security challenges in the region.
