Damen Shiprepair Brest has achieved a significant milestone by completing its 50th cruise ship refurbishment project since becoming part of the Damen Shipyards Group in 2012. Over the past decade, this yard has developed a strong reputation for its expertise in complex repairs and sustainable refits, aligning with Damen’s broader commitment to lead the maritime industry towards greener practices.
Situated near the English Channel, the Brest facility boasts one of Europe’s largest drydocks and specializes in environmentally conscious ship repair and maintenance. This aligns seamlessly with Damen’s goal to be the most sustainable and connected maritime solutions provider, employing innovative technologies and sustainable methods throughout its operations.
The most recent project involved a substantial refit of the 340-meter Disney Fantasy, which follows a similar refurbishment of the Disney Dream in 2024, enhancing the yard’s relationship with major cruise operators.
Each refurbishment project at Damen Shiprepair Brest incorporates advanced measures to improve efficiency, such as upgraded propulsion and maneuvering systems, biocide-free hull coatings, and the in-house creation of 160-ton bulbous bows. These initiatives are designed to reduce emissions, enhance fuel economy, and prolong the lifespan of vessels.
With a skilled workforce of over 180 professionals and long-standing partnerships with industry leaders like Meyer RE of the MEYER Group, the yard continues to advance its sustainable ship repair and refit operations.
