Fred Olsen’s Borealis Set to Sail Again After Successful Drydock Refurbishment
Fred Olsen’s MS Borealis has resumed its operations after completing a two-week drydocking at Damen Shiprepair in Rotterdam, which started on October 21, 2025. The 1,353-passenger ship received significant upgrades, improving both its interior and exterior.
Key public areas were refreshed, including The Observatory and The View, while the Atlantis Spa was equipped with new salon equipment and an upgraded jacuzzi. Selected guest corridors saw improvements with the replacement of fresh-water piping systems.
Entertainment spaces also received enhancements, particularly the Neptune Lounge, which was upgraded in anticipation of upcoming productions in partnership with RWS Global. This includes new stage technology and acoustics, along with the installation of aerial silks. The specialty restaurant, Colours & Tastes, will unveil a rotating themed menu starting in 2026, supported by upgraded interiors.
A new venue called Fresco has been added to the ship on Deck 8, offering an open-air lounge, panoramic views, a pediluvio foot-spa experience, and a stage for intimate live performances, with Mediterranean-inspired light bites to be launched in February 2026.
Operational improvements include the installation of new RFID cabin doors and key cards, an updated phone system, energy-efficient galley equipment, and modernized laundry facilities. Below the waterline, the ship underwent hull cleaning and inspection of key components, with fuel-performance-optimizing propellers added to enhance sustainability. The refit process involved over 920 workers and has positioned Borealis to provide an improved guest experience backed by enhanced technical and green credentials.
