Nicko Cruises Revamps Vasco da Gama’s Itinerary Due to Red Sea Security Concerns

Nicko Cruises, owned by Mystic Holding, has adjusted the itinerary for its upcoming 2025–2026 world cruise aboard the Vasco da Gama due to security concerns in the Red Sea region.

The 175-night voyage, which began on November 7, 2025, from Hamburg, will now change the segment between Dubai and Piraeus-Athens, originally scheduled for March 20, 2026. Instead of passing through the Red Sea and near Yemen, passengers will stop at Salalah, Oman, for a four-day overland program. During this time, the ship will move to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, without passengers.

The new itinerary includes cultural and natural excursions in both Oman and Saudi Arabia. Guests will stay at a four-star hotel in Jeddah before re-boarding the ship. Nicko Cruises emphasizes that passenger safety is its primary concern and states that while conditions may improve by the scheduled date, this preemptive decision ensures the voyage’s continuity. The overland program offers a mix of guided experiences included in the fare and additional options available for pre-booking on board.

Following the Jeddah stop, the Vasco da Gama will proceed with its scheduled transit through the Suez Canal into the Mediterranean and onward to complete its journey into Western Europe.

This change is part of a wider trend in the cruise industry, with other companies, including Celestyal Cruises, also revising itineraries due to maritime security concerns in the region.
