Royal Caribbean’s Vision OTS to Continue Baltimore Sailings Through 2027
Royal Caribbean’s Vision of the Seas is set to continue its operations from the Port of Baltimore through 2027, countering initial plans for the vessel to relocate to Florida. The cruise line has announced summer and autumn itineraries for the 915-foot ship from Baltimore, reversing a previous decision to redeploy it to Fort Lauderdale in 2026.
Since 2023, Vision of the Seas has made Baltimore its home port, completing over forty sailings annually. Current schedules reveal a minimum of 20 voyages set for 2027, featuring tropical routes to the Bahamas and Bermuda, along with seasonal journeys to Canada. The ship will also operate from San Juan, Puerto Rico, in late 2026 before starting its Baltimore season in May, running through October.
The ship’s long-term future in Baltimore remains uncertain, although it is one of only two cruise ships regularly serving the port, with another Carnival vessel committed until 2030. Maryland Port Commission’s executive director, Jonathan Daniels, stated that negotiations with Royal Caribbean are ongoing, with hopes for a long-term deal. He also noted plans for the port to attract additional cruise calls during periods when the ship is not in service.
In the previous year, Baltimore saw over 444,000 cruise passengers, marking its third-highest total ever and the highest since 2012. The port continues to be one of the busiest cruise gateways on the East Coast, despite limitations posed by the Chesapeake Bay Bridge’s clearance. According to Daniels, the trend of favoring larger ships has resulted in cruise lines reallocating smaller vessels to ports like Baltimore, a transition the port aims to leverage in securing sustained cruise traffic for the area.
