Exploris One: Awaiting Its Next Buyer in France
The Exploris One has recently returned to France as part of the liquidation process of Exploris Expeditions & Cruises. The vessel arrived at the port of Caen after spending over a month in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain.
Legal proceedings for the sale of the former Silver Explorer are currently underway. The Nantes Commercial Court’s decision on November 10 sanctioned the liquidation, prompting a call for tenders for potential buyers to inspect the 1989-built ship before making offers. Proceeds from the sale will aid in settling Exploris’ debts owed to its financial partners.
This uncertainty began when Exploris, which had been undergoing administration procedures in France, announced its intent to move forward with operations post-summer season in Northern Europe and the Arctic. The Exploris One involved technical work for its repositioning to Antarctica, but an expedited liquidation process reversed those plans shortly after.
The ship has had a diversified career, previously serving with Silversea as the Silver Explorer and Prince Albert II. Despite the turmoil, the Exploris One was extensively refurbished prior to its launch for Exploris in December 2023, following a refit in Chile. The future remains unclear as the sale and potential new ownership are awaited.
