CCL Carnival Cruise Line Announces Fleet Deployment Updates for the 2027-2028 Caribbean Season
CCL-Carnival Cruise Line has announced a change in its deployment strategy for the 2027-2028 season, which involves the reassignment of two ships. The Carnival Sunshine will move to homeport in Galveston, Texas, a role previously held by the Carnival Spirit. In turn, the Carnival Spirit will be stationed in Tampa, Florida.
This strategic shift marks the first time the 3,000-guest Carnival Sunshine will be based at the Port of Galveston, catering to the increasing demand from travelers in that region. Carnival aims to maintain its presence in Galveston with four ships, offering Caribbean voyages ranging from 4 to 10 days starting in November 2027. The shorter trips will primarily include stops at Mexican destinations like Cozumel and Progreso, while the longer itineraries will feature ports such as Belize, Costa Rica, and Panama.
Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line, stated that the adjustments will allow the company to increase guest capacity in Galveston and provide new extended Caribbean itinerary options from Tampa. The Carnival Spirit will feature a mix of 6- to 8-day Caribbean sailings, with select 8-day voyages that navigate to the Panama Canal. Additionally, a 13-day Carnival Journeys cruise is slated for January 2028, offering a comprehensive travel experience to destinations like Aruba and Curacao.
