73-Year-Old Passenger Plunges Overboard from Disney Wonder: What Happened?
A tragic incident occurred on the MS Disney Wonder when a 73-year-old male passenger from Moonee Ponds, Victoria, was reported overboard in the Tasman Sea. The event took place around 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 22, while the ship was en route to Auckland.
In response, the ship initiated a search operation, turning back and navigating for about five hours in the area where the incident was reported. Crew members utilized thermal imaging equipment in an effort to locate the missing passenger, but despite their efforts, the individual could not be found.
Passengers onboard observed a marked change in the ship’s atmosphere, with many feeling a sense of subdued concern throughout the day. Crew members also appeared visibly affected by the situation.
As of now, Disney Wonder is continuing its journey to New Zealand, but its arrival has been delayed by one day. This voyage is particularly significant as it marks one of the last itineraries for Disney Cruise Line (DCL) in the Australia region for the current season. The company has previously announced that it will not be returning to Australia and New Zealand for the 2026-2027 season.
