Elderly Passenger Goes Overboard from Disney Wonder: A 73-Year-Old’s Disturbing Incident
A 73-year-old man from Moonee Ponds, Victoria, was reported overboard from the MS Disney Wonder while sailing in the Tasman Sea. The incident took place around 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 22, as the ship was traveling to Auckland.
Upon realizing a passenger was missing, the crew initiated a search operation, retracing their route for approximately five hours in the area where the individual was last seen. Despite using thermal imaging to scan the waters, the search was ultimately unsuccessful. The ship’s captain later addressed the passengers, informing them that the individual could not be located.
Witnesses reported that the atmosphere onboard turned somber for the remainder of the day, and crew members appeared visibly impacted by the incident. Following the search, the Disney Wonder continued its course toward New Zealand, but the departure time has been delayed by one day.
This voyage marks one of the final itineraries for Disney Cruise Line (DCL) in the Australia region for the season, as the company has announced it will not return to Australia and New Zealand for the 2026-2027 season.
