Cruise Ships Make a Triumphant Return to Falmouth, Jamaica Following Hurricane Melissa
It had been several months since cruise ships from Royal Caribbean International (RCI) or other major lines visited Falmouth, Jamaica. The reason for this hiatus was Hurricane Melissa, which struck in late October as a Category 5 storm, causing catastrophic damage across the region, including inundated coastlines, devastated hotels, and significant disruptions to local tourism and livelihoods.
In the aftermath of the hurricane, cruise lines rerouted their vessels or deployed ships for humanitarian purposes, delivering crucial supplies such as water, food, and bedding to affected communities. The goal was to restore normal tourism operations by mid-December.
On December 2, 2025, the Caribbean Princess from Princess Cruises became the first cruise ship to dock at Falmouth since the hurricane, marking the official reopening of the port for passenger calls. This return was hopeful for the local economy, as it would provide much-needed opportunities for merchants, transport operators, and service providers in the community.
Several other cruise ships, including those from Royal Caribbean, are scheduled to arrive at Falmouth in the upcoming weeks, with more vessels expected during the holiday season. As the last major cruise port in Jamaica to reopen after Hurricane Melissa, Falmouth’s revival signifies a step toward restoring tourism and rebuilding the livelihoods affected by the disaster.
