Cruise Ships Make a Welcome Return to Falmouth, Jamaica Following Hurricane Melissa
It had been several months since major cruise lines, including Royal Caribbean International, made stops at Falmouth, Jamaica. However, with the recent reopening of the port following Hurricane Melissa, cruise traffic is returning. The hurricane, which struck in late October as a Category 5 storm, caused catastrophic damage across Jamaica, affecting coastlines, hotels, infrastructure, and local tourism.
In the aftermath of the hurricane, cruise lines rerouted their vessels or deployed some ships for humanitarian missions, bringing essential supplies to the impacted areas. The goal was to restore normal tourism operations by mid-December.
On December 2, 2025, Princess Cruises’ Caribbean Princess was the first cruise ship to dock at Falmouth since the hurricane, marking the official reopening of the port to passenger visits. The port authority expressed optimism that the return of cruise ships would stimulate local commerce and create economic opportunities for merchants, transport operators, and service providers.
In the coming weeks, several other cruise ships, including those from Royal Caribbean, are scheduled to visit Falmouth, making it the last major Jamaican cruise port to reopen after Hurricane Melissa. This return is a significant step in restoring tourism and rebuilding the livelihoods affected by the storm.
