Pioneering Biofuel Bunkering: Norwegian Viva Successfully Refuels in Piraeus

The U.S.-based energy company World Fuel Services (WFS), part of World Kinect, executed a significant biofuel bunkering operation for Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH) at the port of Piraeus, Greece. This notable event involved the delivery of a marine-fuel blend to the cruise ship Norwegian Viva, making it one of the earliest instances of commercial biofuel bunkering for a cruise vessel in Greece.

This operation aligns with Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings’ ongoing biofuel initiative across Southern Europe as part of its environmental program, Sail & Sustain. It showcases WFS’s ability to connect maritime operators with certified sustainable fuels worldwide.

Previously, NCLH had initiated biofuel trials in various European ports, including Gibraltar, Copenhagen, and the region comprising Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and Antwerp. It also marks a continuation of earlier biofuel activities performed in Piraeus.

World Fuel Services is headquartered in Miami, Florida, and operates through its Marine, Aviation, and World Kinect segments, offering fuel distribution and renewable-energy solutions to clients globally.
