Triple Ship Naming Extravaganza: Port Everglades Hosts Three Celebrations in Just Two Weeks!

Over a two-week period, Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, hosted the naming ceremonies and maiden sailings for three new cruise ships, reinforcing its status as a key homeport in the cruise industry. The events kicked off on November 6th with the naming of the Star Princess from Princess Cruises, followed by a formal plaque event the next day.

On November 10th, Disney Destiny of Disney Cruise Line was christened, and this was followed by Celebrity Xcel from Celebrity Cruises, which had its naming ceremony on November 16th, complete with a plaque ceremony earlier in the week.

Each ship’s departure was celebrated with tug-boat water sprays, a traditional send-off that attracted crowds along the port channel. These new vessels are amongst the most advanced currently in operation, utilizing alternative fuels like LNG and green methanol, reflecting the port’s commitment to environmentally sustainable cruising.

Port leadership saw this rapid succession of new ship launches as a clear sign of confidence from leading cruise operators. The port reported a preliminary passenger count exceeding 4.7 million for its 2025 fiscal year, which began in October 2024, showcasing its strategic importance as a major gateway for Caribbean and international cruising.
