Tragic Incident: Teen Found Asphyxiated Under Bed on Cruise Ship While Sharing Room with Stepbrother
A tragic incident occurred aboard the Carnival Horizon cruise ship when 18-year-old Anna Kepner was found dead on November 7, while vacationing with her family. According to details from a legal filing in a separate case, Anna died from asphyxiation under a bed in a room that she was sharing with her stepbrother.
The ship returned to PortMiami the following day as scheduled, and Carnival Cruise Lines reported that they were cooperating with the FBI, which is conducting the investigation into Anna’s death.
A recently filed court document in Brevard County, Florida, asserts that Anna’s stepmother, Shauntel Hudson, took her children on this cruise without the consent of their father. The document also claims that the stepmother did not adequately supervise her son, who has been identified as a suspect in Anna’s death.
The Miami-Dade Medical Examiner’s Office has yet to determine the cause of death, as investigations continue. The FBI is leading the inquiry but has released limited information regarding the case.
During a custody hearing, Shauntel Hudson testified that Anna had the option to stay in a different room, suggesting some awareness of the situation. However, she confirmed the 16-year-old stepbrother, identified as a suspect, would not be returning home due to the ongoing investigation.
Anna Kepner, a high school senior, was remembered as a vibrant and outgoing young woman with aspirations to become a cheerleader for the University of Georgia. Her family expressed their sorrow at the loss of someone they described as deeply loving and reliable.
