Lindblad Expeditions Expands Alaska Operations with Greg Mortimer Charter Starting in 2027
Lindblad Expeditions has secured a three-year charter for the expedition cruise ship Greg Mortimer, aimed at expanding its Alaska operations starting in 2027. This move comes as the company plans to retire its long-serving vessels, the National Geographic Sea Bird and the National Geographic Sea Lion, after the 2026 season. The Greg Mortimer will enhance capacity and provide more itinerary options to cater to the increasing demand for Alaskan expedition voyages.
Built in 2019, the Greg Mortimer is designed for challenging environments, featuring an Ulstein X-BOW® hull for improved stability, dynamic positioning technology to protect sensitive seafloors, and multiple Zodiac launch platforms for efficient exploration. The ship accommodates 154 guests with cabins designed for comfort, many of which include private balconies, along with dedicated spaces for learning and wellness, in line with Lindblad’s immersive expedition style.
The introduction of the Greg Mortimer into the Alaskan fleet reflects Lindblad’s nearly 40-year history in the region and highlights a strategic shift towards increasing capacity through vessel charters as older ships are phased out. This new charter will allow the exploration of additional routes and scenic areas synonymous with small-ship expeditions, including the Inside Passage, Hubbard Glacier, and Misty Fjords, offering a range of activities like Zodiac cruises and wildlife observation.
