Port Tarragona Wraps Up 2025 Cruise Season with 62 Calls and Promising Growth for 2026
Port Tarragona has successfully concluded its 2025 cruise season, recording a notable 62 vessel calls and accommodating 126,348 passengers. This achievement marks the third-highest passenger count in the port’s history, trailing only behind the seasons of 2024 and 2019. The results were discussed during a meeting of the port’s Executive Cruise Committee on December 15, where officials reviewed the current season’s activity and set projections for the upcoming year.
The operational data revealed that a significant portion of the calls were transit visits, accounting for approximately 88% of all ship movements. The peak months for arrivals were September and October, each hosting around a dozen calls, indicating Tarragona’s capacity to extend cruise traffic beyond the traditional summer peak.
Looking ahead, the forecast for the 2026 cruise season is optimistic, with 79 calls predicted and passenger numbers anticipated to reach approximately 155,000. A substantial contributor to this projected increase is Viking Cruises, planning to elevate its annual calls at Tarragona from three in 2025 to 17 in 2026, potentially bringing in around 34,800 additional passengers—around 22% of the expected total. MSC Cruises also aims to raise its calls from 25 to 32, implementing this growth with a smaller vessel that aligns with sustainable cruise growth strategies for the region.
