Celestyal Celebrates Discovery’s Arabian Gulf Debut with Mangrove Planting Initiative
Celestyal has celebrated the debut of its ship, Celestyal Discovery, in the Arabian Gulf with a series of special events, including a meaningful mangrove planting event at Jubail Island Mangrove Park in Abu Dhabi. The 1,360-guest ship embarked on its inaugural cruise on December 12, offering new three-, four-, and seven-night “Iconic Arabia” journeys from its homeport in Abu Dhabi, alongside the already operating Celestyal Journey.
This mangrove initiative is part of the UAE’s broader goal of planting 100 million mangroves by 2030 and showcases Celestyal’s commitment to sustainability. Key figures from the company, including CEO Chris Theophilides and COO Captain George Koumpenas, participated in planting the saplings alongside representatives from Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture and Tourism.
In addition to the planting ceremony, plaque exchange events were held in several regional locations including Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Doha, Ras Al Khaimah, and Khasab, commemorating the ship’s maiden calls. Lee Haslett, Celestyal’s Chief Commercial Officer, emphasized that the ship’s presence marks an exciting new chapter and highlights the growing interest in cruise travel in the region. With both Celestyal Discovery and Celestyal Journey operating in the Arabian Gulf for the next three years, the brand aims to provide guests with enriching and authentic experiences in this vibrant corner of the world.
