Port of Heraklion Sees Promising Growth in Cruise Traffic for 2025
The Heraklion Port Authority in Greece has announced positive developments in cruise traffic for 2025, highlighting its ongoing growth as a vital player within the Eastern Mediterranean cruise network.
In 2025, the port welcomed 536,543 cruise passengers, which marks a 3.46% increase from 518,575 in 2024. Additionally, the total number of cruise vessel calls rose from 266 to 281, reflecting a 5.64% increase—translating to an influx of nearly 18,000 passengers and 15 additional ship visits.
A key takeaway from the data is the performance of the port during off-peak seasons. There was a significant rise in traffic in February, June saw a boost in passenger numbers, and October delivered particularly strong results for both calls and passenger volumes. This trend aligns with the broader industry movement toward lengthening cruise seasons and achieving a more balanced distribution of traffic throughout the year.
The demographic makeup of the passengers also underscores the international appeal of Heraklion. Germany maintained its status as the leading source market with 26.88% of passengers, followed closely by the USA at 23.92% and the UK at 13%. Contributions from Spain, Italy, Canada, and Australia further enhanced the port’s diverse passenger profile, reinforcing its market stability.
The port authority remarked that the 2025 figures underline their dedication to positioning Heraklion as a reliable cruise destination.
