MSC Ship Delayed by Over 10 Hours Due to Adverse Weather Conditions

The MSC Sinfonia experienced a delay of over ten hours in arriving at Santos due to severe weather conditions affecting Brazil’s southeast coast. Originally scheduled to dock at the port at 8 AM on January 5, 2026, the ship did not manage to leave its previous port on time. The adverse weather ultimately allowed the vessel to arrive at Santos around 7 PM.

This cruise ship, accommodating 1,900 guests, was concluding a seven-night journey that began in late 2025, with stops at various Brazilian locations. Prior to reaching Santos, the Sinfonia had made a port call in Itajaí, which was initially planned to take place between 8 AM and 6 PM. However, bad weather also led to extended docking at Itajaí, prompting a 4 AM departure.

The MSC Sinfonia is part of a regular weeklong itinerary introduced by MSC Cruises, which includes boarding options in Itajaí and Rio de Janeiro. Passengers can expect visits to destinations such as Ilha Grande, Búzios, and Ilhabela. While the delay in Santos has raised questions, it remains unclear if it will affect the ship’s planned itinerary and port visits for the upcoming week.

In addition to the Sinfonia, five other MSC vessels are stationed in South America, offering a variety of cruise options ranging from three to nine nights, departing from multiple homeports including Santos, Salvador, Maceió, Balneário Camboriú, Buenos Aires, and Montevideo. The 2025-26 season for these cruises runs from late October through early April.
