Ponant Enhances French Polynesia Presence with Addition of Second Vessel

Ponant Explorations Group has announced plans to increase its footprint in French Polynesia by deploying a second ship, Le Jacques Cartier, alongside the m/s Paul Gauguin. This expansion, set to begin in late 2026 and continue through 2027, aims to enhance the variety of itineraries available in the region, building on over 25 years of service with the Paul Gauguin.

The new voyages will explore not only the popular islands but also lesser-known areas within the Society, Tuamotu, Austral, Gambier, and Marquesas archipelagos, as well as the secluded Pitcairn Islands. Ponant’s goal is to facilitate deeper exploration of these remote locales while supporting the communities within them.

Cultural engagement will be a key aspect of the itineraries, featuring traditional welcome ceremonies, workshops with local artisans, and visits to significant cultural and spiritual sites. The Paul Gauguin is expected to continue its current routes, emphasizing longer stays in port and collaborations with local hosts to enhance guest experiences.

Le Jacques Cartier will offer three unique expedition-style itineraries, comprising a potential combined journey lasting up to 42 nights. This program will cover six archipelagos and 23 islands, thanks to collaboration with local communities that has shaped these exploratory itineraries, granting access to areas rich in natural, cultural, and environmental significance often overlooked by conventional cruises.
