High Winds Throw a Wrench in Perfect Day Plans for Thousands Aboard Two Royal Caribbean Ships

Thousands of passengers aboard two Royal Caribbean ships faced disappointment when their planned visit to Perfect Day at CocoCay was canceled due to adverse weather conditions. On January 15, 2026, both the Liberty of the Seas and Radiance of the Seas were unable to dock at the private Island due to winds reaching up to 35 miles per hour.

With a capacity for nearly 6,000 guests combined, the cancellation impacted many eager cruisers hoping to enjoy the popular destination. One guest expressed their frustration on Reddit, noting it was their second cancellation in just four months. Another passenger confirmed the cancellation was indeed motivated by high winds and safety concerns.

Originally, both ships were on identical 4-night itineraries that began in Fort Lauderdale and included a stop in Nassau, Bahamas, on January 13 before heading to CocoCay. However, following the cancellation, they spent the day at sea rather than proceeding to an alternate port.

As noted, navigating through rough seas is manageable for cruise ships, yet docking becomes increasingly risky as wind speeds rise. Passenger accounts confirmed that guests were disappointed but had to make do with another day at sea. While typically guests might expect some form of compensation for missed stops, it appears Royal Caribbean is not obligated to provide any under the terms of their cruise contracts.

Both ships are scheduled to return to Fort Lauderdale for disembarkation on January 16, leaving guests hopeful that they could still enjoy their final day of cruising, despite the unforeseen circumstances.
