Passenger Overboard Incident Reported from Star Breeze Near the Marquesas Islands
A passenger overboard incident occurred on the Windstar Cruises vessel Star Breeze while it was navigating near the Marquesas Islands in French Polynesia during a 14-day Tahiti voyage. The ship raised a Code Oscar alert after it was discovered that a passenger was missing.
Local media reports suggest that the individual, a 66-year-old U.S. citizen, went overboard around 2:00 a.m. Initial investigations indicate that a domestic dispute may have preceded the incident, though authorities have not officially confirmed these details.
Following the alert, maritime authorities were informed, and a search operation was launched. The French Navy’s patrol vessel Gardian arrived at the scene around 8:00 a.m. to assist with the search efforts. Subsequently, Star Breeze continued to Hiva Oa, reaching the destination later that same day.
Upon arrival, police boarded the ship to begin interviews as part of an ongoing investigation related to the circumstances of the overboard incident.
