Meyer Turku Begins Construction of Royal Caribbean’s 5th Icon-Class Cruise Ship

At the Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland, the construction of Royal Caribbean International’s fifth ICON-class cruise ship has officially begun. This milestone was celebrated with a ceremonial steel cutting on January 19, 2026, which involved representatives from the cruise line, the shipyard, and the classification society.

The new vessel, currently referred to as ICON 5, is set for delivery in the summer of 2028. This ship will continue the impressive legacy of the ICON class, which is known for its large size within the global passenger fleet. Meyer Turku is also actively working on other units in this series; the third ship, Legend OTS, is scheduled to enter service this summer, while the fourth, Hero OTS, is under construction and slated for delivery in 2027.

Royal Caribbean has established a long-term relationship with Meyer Turku, allowing for the possibility of additional ships in the ICON series beyond the fifth one. The steelwork initiation marks the start of a multi-year construction process involving thousands of shipwrights, naval architects, and artisans who will contribute to shaping this vessel. Details such as the official name and specific features will be revealed in the future.

Upon its completion, ICON 5 will join the ranks of the largest passenger vessels in operation, showcasing the strong collaboration between Royal Caribbean and the Finnish shipbuilding industry.
