Cruising into the Future: Over 50 New Cruise Ships Set to Launch in the Next Decade

Over the next decade, the cruise industry is set to see the addition of more than 50 new ships, primarily from major lines like Royal Caribbean, MSC Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line, and Carnival. Norwegian Cruise Line has seven ships on the agenda. The next three will follow the Prima Plus Class format, with significant plans for a new, larger class of ship set to launch starting in 2030.

Carnival Cruise Line is preparing to add five ships, starting with two more Excel Class vessels and transitioning to a new larger class known as Project Ace by 2029.

Disney Cruise Line is significantly enhancing its fleet with five new ships. The Disney Adventure launches in March 2026 and promises to be the largest in the fleet. Disney also plans to continue expanding its Wish-class series and introduce two next-generation ships by 2029 and 2031.

Margaritaville at Sea is gearing up for its largest ship, the Margaritaville at Sea Beachcomber, set to redefine its offerings upon launch in early 2027.

Virgin Voyages currently has a fully operational fleet of four ships, with no immediate plans for additional ships, focusing instead on expanding itineraries and homeports.

Environmental Considerations

Many of the upcoming vessels will emphasize efficiency and lower emissions, with several lines committing to using liquefied natural gas (LNG) and incorporating advanced fuel-saving technologies.
