MSC Cruises Unveils Ambitious Expansion Plans for Ocean Cay Marine Reserve
MSC Cruises has announced an ambitious program to enhance its private island destination, Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, located in The Bahamas. The upgrades, which are expected to be completed by late 2027, will include new dining options, additional cabanas, and an infrastructure expansion to accommodate two ships at once.
Ocean Cay has operated as a cruise destination since its opening in late 2019, following its transformation from an industrial site into a leisure hub featuring over two miles of beaches and various recreational facilities. Presently, the island boasts diverse leisure zones, seven bars, and casual dining choices including the Seakers Food Court and food trucks.
The planned enhancements aim to introduce four new dining concepts by 2027 and redesign the Seakers Cove area, which will feature a new children’s playground, a ropes course, and an adult-only retreat called Paradise Sands. The expansion will also provide a better selection of cabanas.
In addition to these upgrades, MSC is launching the "Shifting Perspective" Experience through its MSC Foundation. This initiative will focus on marine conservation efforts, engaging visitors in activities related to coral restoration and marine education.
Furthermore, MSC is progressing on a second private island project, tentatively named Little Cay, which will share similar design philosophies with Ocean Cay, ensuring a cohesive experience across both islands.
