The port welcomed around 6.1 million cruise guests, surpassing its previous record of 5.6 million in 2024. Overall, the Bahamas experienced an unprecedented influx of 12.5 million visitors, with cruise tourism making up the majority of these arrivals.
Mike Maura Jr., CEO & Director of Nassau Cruise Port, emphasized the significance of this achievement: "Welcoming more than six million cruise passengers in a single year reflects the confidence of our cruise partners and the impact of ongoing investments to enhance the passenger experience." This latest figure represents a 9.5% increase from the previous year.
Nassau’s cruise tourism growth has been bolstered by substantial investments in port upgrades, amounting to $300 million. These initiatives, which began with the port’s revamped operations in May 2023, have included the creation of new berths to accommodate larger ships. Notably, Royal Caribbean’s Icon-class vessels can now dock at Nassau, allowing for visits from up to 7,600 guests simultaneously.
In 2025, Nassau achieved several record-breaking days, such as welcoming 30,538 passengers on March 11 and breaking this record again on April 8 with 31,011 guests. These instances demonstrate the growing popularity of the port among cruise travelers.
The Bahamas as a whole is witnessing a tourism boom, with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Chester Cooper, stating, “Visitor arrivals grew 11.4 percent year-over-year, surpassing 2024’s record and exceeding pre-pandemic levels by more than 72 percent.” The country’s growth is not solely centered around Nassau; other locations like Grand Bahama, Bimini, and Eleuthera are also experiencing an increase in tourist traffic, highlighting the overall health of the Bahamian tourism sector.
