Disney Adventure Sets New Transit Record in the Panama Canal
The Disney Adventure, operated by Disney Cruise Line, accomplished a remarkable feat by completing its inaugural transit of the Panama Canal on February 2, 2026. The ship, weighing approximately 208,000 gross tons and capable of carrying around 6,700 passengers, has set a new record as the largest passenger ship ever to transit the canal, surpassing the previous record held by the Norwegian Bliss by over 40,000 GT tons.
This historic transit was part of Disney Adventure’s repositioning voyage, preparing for its planned entry into service in Asia later this year. The Panama Canal Authority’s records note that this achievement underscores the expanded dimensions of modern cruise vessels and the ability of the Neopanamax locks to accommodate such larger ships.
Navigating through the intricate locks connecting the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans required meticulous coordination among ship pilots, tug crews, and canal operation personnel. The transit is a vital part of Disney Adventure’s repositioning from Europe to its new homeport in Singapore, where it will conduct 3- and 4-night ocean sailings as Disney Cruise Line expands its offerings in the Asian market.
