Adora Cruises has recently celebrated a significant milestone with the embarkation of its one-millionth passenger aboard the Adora Magic City, the first large cruise ship manufactured in China. This achievement marks a pivotal moment in the growth of Shanghai’s cruise shipping industry, reflecting the strong demand and confidence in the services offered by the cruise line.
The operators based in Shanghai emphasized that this milestone indicates a robust interest in cruise experiences, prompting them to consider expanding their fleet to include more ships at both domestic and international ports. This growth strategy aligns with China’s Belt and Road Initiative, aimed at enhancing trade and infrastructure connectivity across various regions, including Asia, Africa, and Europe.
For the current cruise season, the Adora Magic City is expected to complete over eighty voyages, primarily departing from Shanghai. In August, it will also sail from Shenzhen for its inaugural journey into Southeast Asia. Besides the Magic City, Adora Cruises boasts two other prominent vessels: the Adora Mediterranean, known as the "art ship," and Piano Land, which operates under the Astro Ocean Cruise brand.
The Adora Mediterranean plans to operate from multiple homeports, including Tianjin, Guangzhou, Xiamen, Qingdao, Dalian, and Shenzhen, providing flexible routing options. For instance, the Mediterranean is scheduled to set sail from the Xiamen International Cruise Home Port on April 10 for a cruise that will visit the Philippines and Vietnam.
Additionally, the construction of China’s second domestically built large cruise ship, the Adora Flora City, is nearing completion, expected to be delivered by the end of the year. This new vessel will be based in Guangzhou Nansha and will focus on operations within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
