Fred Olsen’s Bolette Back in Action Post Drydock Refurbishment in Falmouth
Fred Olsen’s flagship cruise ship, the Bolette, has resumed operations following a 16-day drydock period at the APCL A&P Falmouth shipyard in the UK. The ship, which entered the yard on January 18th, underwent routine maintenance, technical inspections, and several enhancements to its passenger areas and systems.
During the drydock, key public spaces like The Observatory and The Ocean Bar were refurbished, accompanied by new carpeting in the main dining room. Renovations included updates to over fifty guest cabin bathrooms and a complete transformation of the specialty restaurant, which will introduce a rotating menu showcasing international cuisines starting in 2026. Significant upgrades were also made to the Neptune Lounge, with the addition of a new LED wall and aerial performance structures to facilitate enhanced evening entertainment, including new theatre productions planned for later this year.
In addition to passenger-focused enhancements, the drydock also involved extensive technical work to improve the vessel’s operational performance. This included repainting the hull, cleaning tanks, and refurbishing tender platforms and stabilizers, along with the installation of more efficient propeller blades to meet performance and environmental targets. Approximately 350 people, including subcontractors and over 40 apprentices, were involved in the vessel’s refit program.
With the completion of the drydock, Bolette is set to embark on a 32-day roundtrip voyage to the Caribbean departing from Liverpool, marking its return to passenger service. This refit was the ship’s second drydock at APCL A&P Falmouth, forming a part of a broader maintenance initiative by the shipyard group for the cruise line.
