Adora Cruises has reached a significant milestone by recording its one-millionth passenger embarkation aboard the Adora Magic City, the first large cruise ship built in China. This event marks the growth of the cruise industry in Shanghai, highlighting the demand and trust in the company’s services.
Officials from the Shanghai-based operator emphasized that the one-millionth mark showcases the strong market appetite. The cruise line is currently exploring the addition of more ships to serve both domestic and international ports. This expansion aligns with China’s Belt and Road Initiative, aimed at enhancing trade and connectivity through infrastructure projects across various regions.
In the current cruise season, Adora Magic City is set to complete over eighty voyages, primarily from its homeport in Shanghai. Notably, it will make its inaugural trip to Shenzhen in August for a cruise into Southeast Asia. The fleet also includes two other large vessels: Adora Mediterranean, branded as an “art ship,” and Piano Land, affiliated with Astro Ocean Cruise.
Future plans for Adora Mediterranean include utilizing multiple homeports, such as Tianjin, Guangzhou, Xiamen, Qingdao, Dalian, and Shenzhen, to provide flexible itineraries. For instance, it is scheduled to sail from Xiamen International Cruise Home Port on April 10th, with stops in the Philippines and Vietnam.
Additionally, the construction of China’s second domestically built large cruise ship, Adora Flora City, is nearing completion with expectations for delivery by the end of the year. This vessel is set to operate from Guangzhou Nansha, focusing on the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
